Daniel Priestley Joined Us on the Super Star Sport Podcast

A few months ago, Daniel Priestley stood on stage at the BFA Conference speaking to hundreds of franchisors and business owners.
One message really landed.
Personal brand matters.
Not in a showy way. In a practical way.
People want to know:
• Who they’re buying from
• Who they’re partnering with
• What you stand for
Daniel challenged the room:
“Build hours and hours of accessible IP so people can find you, learn from you, and trust you before they ever meet you.”
Start a podcast.
Write a book.
Share what you’re learning.
So we did.
We launched the Super Star Sport Podcast.
And then, in what still feels slightly surreal… Daniel joined us as a guest.

Why This Episode Meant So Much
At Super Star Sport, we’re building more than a children’s sports coaching company.
We’re building a network of leaders and franchise owners who care about:
• Delivering brilliant sessions for children
• Building strong relationships with schools and parents
• Keeping standards high
• Living our values — Fun, Positivity, Enthusiasm and Safety
This wasn’t just a business chat.
It was a real conversation about ambition, family, growth and staying grounded.
I’ll be honest, I was nervous.
It reminded me of my first ever coaching session years ago. Waiting in the car park thinking, “What if nobody turns up?”
That same mix of excitement and nerves came back.
Within minutes though, it felt relaxed, honest and full of value.

The Biggest Takeaways
1. Balance Isn’t Something You Find
Daniel said:
“Balance isn’t standing still… you don’t ever achieve balance. You maintain it.”
With ambition comes pressure. With growth comes responsibility.
He shared some non-negotiables that keep him grounded:
• One-to-one time with each child, every day
• School drop-offs where possible
• Hearing about their day
• Bedtime moments
Business is important.
But family time isn’t something you “fit in later”.
2. Hard Work Still Matters… But On The Right Things
One line really stood out:
“You can’t outwork digital assets.”
Effort matters.
But effort that scales matters more.
Daniel spoke about putting energy into:
• Content and storytelling
• Clear websites and landing pages
• Strong systems
• Customer journeys that make sense
• Culture that holds when you’re not in the room
In franchising, that last point is everything.
Standards don’t happen by accident.
3. Early Reps Build You
Daniel talked about working at McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, in call centres and sales roles.
Those early reps shape you.
He also said:
“Fast growth doesn’t feel good. It stretches you… it can break you if you aren’t ready.”
We’ve felt that.
In the early days of Super Star Sport, every new school or nursery felt massive. We celebrated everything.
As growth speeds up, targets get bigger. You move on quickly.
Those early experiences build resilience. They prepare you for scale.
4. Luck Is Real — But You Control The Odds
This framework was powerful:
“Everything involves luck… but you’re in control of the odds.”
Your odds improve depending on:
• Who you spend time with
• Where you show up
• What you learn
• What risks you take
• Whether you step forward or stay comfortable
This podcast exists because we stepped forward.
Sometimes the move is simple:
Send the email.
Make the call.
Turn up.
5. Apprenticeship Beats Shortcuts
Daniel’s advice:
“Start out as an apprentice… get a job in a small business where you report directly to the founder.”
When businesses get bigger, you stop learning directly from the person at the top.
One of the strengths of franchising is that you’re not building alone.
You’re part of a network.
• Ideas move faster
• Wins are shared
• Standards improve together
A win in one territory can become a win across the network.
6. Decide What “Done” Looks Like
This was one of the most practical parts of the conversation.
“Most entrepreneurs don’t decide what ‘done’ looks like.”
Saying “I want seven figures” isn’t clear enough.
Daniel explained you need clarity on:
• Revenue target
• Profit target
• Type of customer
• Team size
• Days per week worked
• What life looks like at that stage
Clarity removes chaos.
7. Speed To Market. Speed To Value.
Daniel simplified modern business into two ideas:
Speed to market
How quickly you tell your story and reach people.
Speed to value
How quickly you deliver consistently.
In our world, delivery is everything.
You can’t fake energy and enthusiasm in a coaching session.
But everything around the session matters too:
• Parent communication
• Scheduling
• Safeguarding
• Reporting
• Systems
Fun, positivity and enthusiasm matter.
Safety and standards come first.
How This Happened
It started at the British Franchising Association’s national Conference.
Daniel challenged the room to build accessible content and show up properly.
– We took it seriously.
– We started the podcast.
– We reached out.
– We booked the studio.
– We made it happen.

Sometimes the next step doesn’t need overthinking.
You just take it.
