Uncertain Funding…
Clear Decisions for Schools Heading Into 2026/27
There’s been a lot of noise recently around the future of the PE & Sport Premium.
You’ve probably seen bits about it being reduced, changed, or moved into something different from 2026/27.
Truth is, nothing has actually been confirmed yet.
But schools still need to plan. Waiting around for clarity just puts you on the back foot later on. And regardless of what happens with funding, the need for strong PE, active children and confident staff doesn’t go anywhere.
At Super Star Sport, we’re in schools every single week. What we’re seeing is pretty consistent across the board. PE isn’t going backwards, it’s just evolving, and the schools that stay proactive now are the ones that tend to stay ahead.
What’s actually changing (and what isn’t)
Even without full clarity on funding, the direction of travel is obvious.
There’s more focus on wellbeing and daily movement.
More expectation on consistent, high-quality PE.
More pressure on schools to show progression and impact.
And more schools leaning on external partners to help deliver properly.
That’s not a new shift for us. It’s how we’ve always worked with schools.
What we’re seeing in schools right now
Most of the conversations we’re having with headteachers and PE leads are very similar.
Some staff feel confident, others don’t, especially in areas like gymnastics.
Delivery can vary a lot between classes depending on the teacher.
Newer staff aren’t always sure how to structure progression across a term or year.
Clubs can feel a bit samey and don’t always engage all children.
There’s a clear desire to improve wellbeing, but not always a clear plan on how to do it.
None of this is unusual. It’s just where a lot of schools are at.
Where we come in
We don’t try to overcomplicate things. The focus is always on what actually improves provision day to day.
We help schools get a clear picture of where they currently are and where the gaps are. From there, it’s about putting simple, practical steps in place that make things better straight away.
A big part of that is staff confidence. When teachers feel confident, everything else improves. Lessons are better, children are more engaged, and delivery becomes consistent across the school. Our support is always practical, things teachers can actually use the next day, not just theory.
Then there’s enrichment, which is becoming more and more important. This is no longer just an add-on. Schools are being judged more on the wider experience they offer children, not just what happens in PE lessons.

We’re delivering a wide range of clubs that children genuinely want to be part of. That includes all core sports, but also things like Ninja Warrior clubs, STEM-based activity sessions, Lego clubs and active challenges. It gives schools more variety, gets more children involved and supports behaviour and engagement across the week.
The big one… wraparound
This is the area more schools are starting to take seriously, and rightly so.
Wraparound provision isn’t just about childcare anymore. When it’s done properly, it becomes a huge part of a school’s overall offer to parents and children.
It supports families, increases daily activity levels, and creates a consistent, structured environment before and after school.
But the part that often gets overlooked is the financial impact.
When schools partner with Super Star Sport on wraparound, it can significantly reduce the cost of PE delivery. In some cases, it completely changes how schools are able to allocate their funding.
Instead of seeing PE as a cost, it becomes part of a wider, more sustainable model.
That’s where things start to make real sense.
What I’d be doing if I was in your position
I wouldn’t be waiting around for announcements.
I’d plan as if the funding is staying and make decisions based on what the school actually needs, not what might happen.
I’d prioritise staff confidence because that’s what drives long-term quality.
I’d look properly at enrichment and ask whether it’s actually engaging children or just ticking a box.
And I’d seriously explore wraparound, not just from a provision point of view, but from a financial and strategic one.
Final thought
There’s always going to be change in education. That’s nothing new.
But the fundamentals don’t shift.
Children need to be active.
Staff need to feel confident.
Schools need provision they can rely on.
Everything we do at Super Star Sport is built around that.
