This hub is designed specifically for primary school headteachers, PE leads and school business managers. Whether you’re planning your PE and Sport Premium spend or looking to improve your current provision, we’ve created this space to give you guidance, tools, and clear answers.
Everything here is based on DfE guidance, Ofsted expectations, and what works best in real schools we support across the UK.
Wraparound Childcare Funding, What Headteachers Need to Know
In 2023, the government announced a major commitment to Wraparound Childcare, with the goal of ensuring that every primary school pupil in England has access to before and after-school care by September 2026.
To support this target, schools and providers can now access £289 million in funding through local authorities to help establish or expand their wraparound provision.
The Department for Education has issued clear guidance for schools and trusts to help you design and deliver high-quality, Ofsted-compliant wraparound care that supports working families and benefits pupils across all year groups. What Is Wraparound Childcare?
Wraparound childcare refers to before-school, after-school and holiday provision delivered on-site at schools or in local venues. It provides a safe, structured environment where children can learn, play, and socialise outside of normal school hours.
It helps schools:
– Support working parents with flexible, affordable childcare
– Promote pupil wellbeing and engagement throughout the school day
– Offer enrichment activities that include sport, creative arts and social development
Why Wraparound Provision Matters for Schools
– Establishing or expanding wraparound care offers schools real benefits, including:
– Meeting DfE expectations for wraparound access by 2026
– Increasing attendance, punctuality and parental satisfaction
– Creating new income streams through bookings or partnerships
– Promoting physical activity, inclusion and healthy lifestyles
Whether you choose to run your wraparound in-house or partner with a trusted provider like Super Star Sport, the new government funding makes now the right time to act.
